Credit cards are without any doubt the most crucial things for many, in fact, kinds of a life saviour. But many times, we find that maintaining a credit card is quite difficult. Also, there are times when most of us don’t even use them as we pay through cash or debit cards.
In such cases, we recommend closing or cancelling the credit card to avoid paying any annual taxes, etc. There are many ways you can cancel or close your HDFC credit card. Let’s start with the process.
In case you have lost your credit card or simply want to block it, then you must follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Log in to HDFC NetBabking using your NetBanking ID and password provided by the bank.
Step 2: Secondly, click on the Credit Cards tab. Then, click on the credit card hot listing option present on the left-hand side. A list of credit cards registered under NetBanking will appear in front of you on the screen.
Step 3: Now, select the credit card number you wish to block or hotlist.
Step 4: Next, you need to choose the options for hotlisting and submit.
Step 5: In any case, if you ever reconsider re-issuing the card, then you can select the option if you would like the card to be re-issued.
In case you want to avoid closing your credit card through NetBanking due to any reasons, then you may also opt for the PhoneBanking method. All you need to do is to follow these two simple steps:
Step 1: Validate your TIN (Telephone Identification Number), a 4-digit number provided by the HDFC bank for accessing PhoneBanking services.
Step 2: Follow the instructions to close or block your credit card.
Or simply call on the toll-free number 61606161/6160616 by adding your area code before the number and ask them to get your credit card cancelled or closed or blocked.
The last yet easiest way to cancel your credit card is to visit an HDFC bank branch and submit an application for the same.
Here’s all you need to do:
Step 1: Visit your nearest HDFC bank branch and collect the application for the credit card closure. Or you can also download the application from their official website.
Step 2: Fill out the application and submit it at the branch.
Note: Once you have initiated the process of credit card account closure, you must cut the card diagonally.
While it’s completely fine to get your credit card cancelled or closed, there are a few things that you must ensure before initiating the process. They are as follows:
Ensure that there are no dues left and you have paid all the EMIs and other balances of the transactions that you made.
Make sure you have used the reward points on your credit card. If not, then use those points to avail heavy discounts on various products.
Do not use your credit card just before the cancellation request, otherwise, your request will be denied.
Do not forget to check the latest statement clearly to avoid any kind of fraudulent transactions on your credit card.
Once you have taken care of all these things, you can proceed ahead with the cancellation process.
